SEO Efforts

Author: sally

1. Not exploring your keywords/applying the wrong keywords: simply because you believe you know what the most beneficial keywords and make up to drive traffic to your site, does not mean they are the keywords and phrases the masses using the search engines will enter to find the merchandise, service, or idea you are seeking to sell.

2. Uncontrolled Oversubmission: There are 1000s of search engines, but only 10 of them will in reality bring you any traffic. Presenting your site to the others consumes your time and, if you pay for your software package or a service to do it for you, your money too. Nearly all of these "lesser" search engines are FFAs or Free For Alls that could really harm your rankings with the big 10.

3. Early Oversubmission: This refers to submitting your site/pages/docs to the search engines too often and too soon in the site's or pages' development, which are both big no-nos.

4. Image-Only Headings: once it comes to headings, a caption added to your graphic heading is worth a thousand images.

5. Not building use of the Title Tag: Not only is this bad for the apparent reason that it wastes an chance to make use of a keyword, but it's the title tag that surfaces as the title of your page in your search result, and if there is nothing there, there is nothing there.

6. Brassy websites with no HTML option: Flash sites are large and sometimes slow to load, not to bring up some people don't have Flash and do not want to download and install it. So if you do not have an HTML choice on your page, you fall behind on all that traffic.

7. Spamming backlinks: Don't do it. If you don't know what it is, do not learn.

8. Overusing keywords: Or any SEO methods, for that matter. Consider Goldilocks-too little is not enough, too much is...well, too much. But moderation is just right.

9. Unfit URL: Lame URLs are just plain lame. Have some time to come up with a expert URL that's catchy to visitors and sticky to search engines.

10. Brushing aside the value of engaging a quality SEO company to help you bring home the bacon.
